Gutter Material & Color Options

When It Comes to Gutter Materials and Colors, Skywalker Gives You Options!

Choosing the Right Gutter Material

One thing that gutters have in common with other elements of your home’s exterior is the fact that they come in different material options. Which gutter material is right for you? It’s a good idea to talk to other homeowners in your area and find out what their experiences have been with various gutter types, and of course it would be wise to seek the counsel of some gutter experts. In the end, though, the choice of gutter materials is really up to you.
Vinyl gutters have become more popular in recent years since they’re relatively easy to install, won’t rust or corrode, and come at a cheap price point. However, some reputable contractors don’t work with vinyl for gutters, because it’s simply not as rugged as other gutter materials, and vinyl gutters can eventually crack in areas with colder climates. Aluminum gutters are also another popular choice – they’re lightweight, won’t rust, handle temperature extremes better than vinyl, and can be produced in long, single pieces without seams. One drawback to aluminum is that is prone to denting or bending from impact.

Copper gutters are a premium material option that are favored for their exceptional beauty, longevity, and natural color (never needs painting), but copper is also one of the most expensive material options. There is also another sturdy material of note that is now gaining popularity – Galvalume. Galvalume steel has been used in roofing for some time, and is a great option to consider for rain gutters. Galvalume is a steel substrate that’s coated in a mix of 55% aluminum and 45% zinc. The steel base makes the gutter strong and durable, while the aluminum/zinc coating protects the steel from rust. Like copper, Galvalume has a long life span, but it’s actually stronger than copper and comes at a better price point than copper, too.

Materials Featured by Skywalker

Skywalker can custom build K-style, half-round, or commercial gutters for your particular needs, and Skywalker works with three featured gutter materials:

  • Aluminum Gutters
Aluminum is still the most widely-used gutter material in America, and for good reason. It’s lightweight, fairly easy to work with, won’t rust, is available in a rainbow of colors, and is particularly well-suited for the construction of custom seamless gutters. Aluminum also comes at the best price point among gutter material types that Skywalker can custom build and install for you.
  • Copper Gutters
It’s hard to beat the natural qualities and time-tested performance of copper gutters. Copper never rusts and never needs painting, and it develops a signature patina over time. Copper gutters do require professional installation, including required welding of the seams and joints. Copper is a popular choice for high-end residences and historic restorations, and really does make for some beautiful gutters, if you have the budget for it. The pros at Skywalker are well-versed in working with copper, and would be happy to serve your copper gutter needs.
  • Galvalume Steel Gutters
If you want gutters that are stronger and more durable than aluminum while still offering a variety of color selections, Galvalume steel is a material that Skywalker recommends. Galvalume is a very versatile, long-lasting material, but note that it’s also heavier than aluminum and is probably not something you want to take on as a DIY gutter project. Skywalker has been working with Galvalume for years, and we have all the tools and know-how to provide you with exceptional Galvalume steel gutters.
